Mostly Female Space Marines…That Problem.

Let’s get into this, shall we?
I’m well aware that there are people like Henry Cavill out there (may the gods bless and keep him) doing the good work of first, being an actual fan of the properties in which he’s taking part and honoring them to the best of his ability.
Look, Man of Steel was a great take on Superman. You don’t have to like that. It’s just what it is. He did really well with that. The Witcher was reportedly great with him in it and, from the clips I’ve seen, I might have watched it if I didn’t give all of Netflix the boot a long time ago.
He’s also a Warhammer 40k guy and he has a means of tastefully defending his hobbies and fans by calling them “passionate” when media has tried to get him to renounce them by insisting they’re somehow toxic.
Personally, I don’t play Warhammer. I was interested in it at one point in time until I was told how much money I’d have to sink in up front to be able to play it. That was a colossal turn-off to a guy struggling to make ends meet. I also didn’t have the time then to paint minis, I was always chasing money. I’ve never gotten into the hobby and really am not keen on getting into it. The cost is what keeps me at bay.
One thing I’m all in on Warhammer fans though is this idea that the female space marine is yet another in the series of dumbfuckery that the insistent professional victim crowd have been screeching about only to get nothing. Stay Tuned because I’ll share the secret to getting female space marines. Seriously. I’ll let you know how you can get them and then you can apply it to anything else you want to see in there. Same Strategy. Multitudes of new factions.
Now, I came across this earlier today and decided that I would share it.

I, for one, agree. Before I go on, let me share this bit with you…

Just a little over four years ago, this statement was made and, while I am an advocate of that first paragraph’s sentiment about coming together under the common banner, I think WarComTeam has missed something entirely.
There are groups of people out there making wild demands and that’s all they are; demands. These are not reasoned positions. These people making demands for female space marines don’t seem to understand that the lore that has been in place for many years does not allow for this kind of thing. The Sisters of Battle are already a sort of female guard type of character that is there to defend The Imperium of Man and directly oppose The Emperor. We’ve heard the cries of “THAT’S NOT ENOUGH!” and our response to that is “Well…tough shit. Life’s hard, get a helmet, I don’t know what to tell you.”
Here’s the thing. None of us are trying to keep you out of the game. The game is what it is. For now, buy some minis. Build, kitbash and paint, sit down and play or don’t. Those are the options. It’s really that simple.
With FrostFireFlame’s take, it’s one with which I agree. We’ve seen what happens with WoTC, Dennis Detwiller, Onyx Path and others. None of us are buying the crap they’re producing. That leads me to this bit right here.

Whoa, there DM. Pump the brakes, it’s time you heard this.
No, Frost wasn’t making this part of her identity. If anything, we’re all sick of seeing the Radiant Citadel crowds infect hobbies, push you, me and Frost out and claim that we’re all bigots and racists and blah, blah, blah. This has gone on long enough and there’s a point where we do push back.
Warhammer 40k & Fantasy is, indeed for everyone…but not just anyone. In fact, games in general are for everyone but not just anyone.
These games are for people who want to play the games and enjoy them. While there is nothing wrong with a game evolving, we need some reason and logic behind it. If Games Workshop doesn’t want to alter the lore to include female space marines, then they should not have to. If The Sisters of Battle isn’t enough for someone, then this game isn’t for them and they should find another. I have since abandoned WoTC after the OGL Scandal. I don’t see a good reason to continue supporting that company as I’ve stated in my last article. For me, Dungeons & Dragons can burn to the ground and I’ll still have the many clones and my go-tos for Fantasy Gaming as needed. D&D itself may die in brand name alone and I’d be perfectly fine with it.
Need I remind you that One Page Rules has mini STL files at far better rates and an actually playable version of Warhammer 40k with the serial numbers filed off. I don’t need to call Alien Hives by the name Tyranids in order to play. I don’t need to spend hundreds in books and miniatures. I have the STL files I own and, when I do buy a 3D Printer and the resin to go with it, miniatures, terrain and all the fixins will be printed, painted and thrown down for a legit game. We’ll be making up our own lore to Grimdark Future as well as the other games included. The added bonus? If some of us wanted to play Warhammer 40k then we already have the minis ready to go, we don’t need Games Workshop’s miniatures.
I have watched some of your own videos critiquing GW’s releases and how they weren’t really impressing you. If these professional victims get their claws into Warhammer 40k, they will stop at nothing to sterilize the product. Again, look at D&D if you have a hard time believing me. I don’t have a problem with anyone picking up the books and the supplies and homebrewing at their own table or even making up entire races or completely dicking around with established lore…at their own table. I defend the right to be wrong in that case. I will say that I’ll never sit at that table nor will I have a player insistent that I play by a rule set or edition I simply will not use. Your Table, Your Rules, My Table, My Rules Always In All Ways. My table will not be a fit for everyone and that’s fine. I’m not a fit for everyone’s table either. Nothing wrong with that.
Now, let’s talk about getting the female space marines. I’m going to start out with saying this, if you want this secret to work, it will take time and work on your end.
Now that those people have bailed because they don’t believe in working, let’s get down to it.
First, you’ll have to establish some lore. For example, only certain females with a genetic predisposition to the process that Space Marines must undergo can be candidates. Secondly, they may have abbreviated life spans due to the process fundamentally altering them if they survive that process. You’re going to have to give in good faith here if you want this to succeed. Just facts. As time goes on, there may be new tech that does make the process more survivable with fewer drawbacks. All others must be Sisters of Battle. Let’s not undo what the writers have given you in good faith.
Second, you’ll have to playtest this and ensure that it works and works well with established canon. If it doesn’t, keep repeating that first step and this one until there is a good fit between mechanics and lore.
Third, I know this is called homebrewing and that’s what you’re going to have to do because, once you get this, you’ll understand how this whole process works. Yes, you’ll have to homebrew it and, if the first two steps aren’t working out then homebrew your own faction. This is going to work out more in your favor and give you something you never really considered before. So homebrew, play, homebrew, play, rinse repeat until it works and works well.
Fourth, once you have your canon, your own lore, designs, mechanics, etc, submit it to Games Workshop and follow up. If you do this correctly, you may find that you either get your female space marines or your own faction and you’ll earn some sweet cash while doing it.
Four easy steps. The steps are easy, what you have to do won’t be but your demands haven’t been working. Isn’t it time you stopped bashing your head against the wall and bitching that you got a concussion?
